PHILADELPHIA, PA - April 11, 2019: OWE, an acronym for “One With Earth” is a Philadelphia based non-profit on a mission to empower impoverished communities by providing them with the resources necessary to achieve sustainability and independence. The founders of OWE are aiming to fulfill what we as humans owe to those in the world who are less fortunate. On Thursday, May 2nd the founders of OWE are calling out to others to do the same. During a visit to Haiti in January 2019, OWE co-founders discovered that the 80 children living at Damabiah Orphanage were only eating and drinking every 2-3 days due to a significant lack of resources and inefficient logistical systems. The orphanage compound had no access to running water, electricity, or the proper space needed to grow food, but also had no regularly schedule food deliveries for the children. In addition to these infrastructural deficiencies, the school that operates on the orphanage grounds was poorly managed, underfunded, and not equipped to provide a structured or meaningful education to the children. The members of OWE are working diligently to eliminate each of these short comings, all while being eco-friendly. As an inaugural project, OWE is working with Damabiah Orphanage in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti to integrate sustainable systems and processes that will solve their limited access to food, water, electricity, and adequate education. Since February 2019, OWE has set up a systematic delivery system to provide bi-weekly food and water deliveries to the children at Damabiah. The goal for 2019 is to expand upon this project by gaining enough funds to continue the bi-weekly food services so no child at Damabiah will go hungry again. Once these basic human needs are met, OWE will aim to improve the school at Damabiah through strategic relationships with US based universities so that the children can receive the education that they deserve. With the help of corporate partners, OWE plans to implement solar electricity, water collection and water filtration systems for the orphanage to have a foundation of self sustainability. Lastly, OWE will aid in the creation of an “Eco Garden” in order for the children of Damabiah to learn how to grow their own food. On Thursday, May 2nd OWE will be hosting its official Launch Party at 6:30PM in Ardmore PA at The Bercy. OWE is looking for big hearted individuals interested in becoming members, donor, or ambassadors to the organization. Tickets for the Launch Party are available through Eventbrite by clicking HERE.
